I am 6 months pregnant with my first child and I was curious what color eyes she would have.

My Husband:

-My husband is full Swedish(He is from Sweden) and he has blonde hair and blue eyes, most of my husbands family has blue eyes

Me:

-I am half Swedish, a quarter African American, and a quarter Native American and I have dark brown eyes and so does everyone on my Dads side(Native American and African American), on my Moms side(Swedish) she has Brown eyes but most of my Moms side has Blue eyes

You have two copies of every gene (one from each parent). The only way to have blue eyes is to inherit blue eyes genes from each parent. If you get one blue and one brown, the brown overpowers the blue, and the eyes look brown. I think it's even more complicated than this, cause there are two layers of pigment. So there are actually 4 total genes, if any one of them is brown, the baby will be brown.

The odds will be in favor of brown eyes, but there is still a possibility of blue. I think probably 75% chance of brown eyes. It's not 50/50, because you might not have any blue in your genes at all, if it didn't get passed to you from your mom.

Green is impossible.

You won't know till your baby is a few months old when the "born blue" eyes changes to their natural color (or stay blue). I've heard brown eyes are dominant, but that wasn't the case with my daughter. My hubby has brown eyes, I have hazel. Our daughter has blue. Go figure. (We both have blue eyed family members - my mother, his brother) So, you never know.

Brown eyes are dominant, but since you have recessive blue eyes in your genes, it is possible for the child to have either one. Though there wasn't any african american in my ex's family, but indian and mexican, and my father in law the same, yet he had blue eyes, they had 3 children with blue, and 3 children with brown. Our daughters both have brown, even though I have blue, but I also carry the recessive genes for brown eyes. So it is a toss up. You'll just have to wait and see. Plus my oldest daughters eyes kept changing colors until she was almost 2. They would go from a very dark blue to dark brown and back again.

Your baby will 100% have brown eyes because brown eyes are domaniant to blue eyes, and you are domanant for brown eyes and your husband is dominant for blue eyes.

Well, I am studying genetics right now, so I can give you a fairly accurate guess. You and your husband have two possibilities each of the eye color you will pass down. Since your husband has two recessive alleles most likely (blue eye chromosomes) and you probably have the dominant brown allel, but also are a carrier for the recessive blue allel your child has a 50/50 chance his or her color eyes. Your child will either have two recessive alleles,or one dominant (which masks the blue) and one recessive allel. It is highly unlikely that your child will have green eyes.
