Does your mother dye her hair? It would be helpful to your cause if she did. Try explaining to her that hair color to the younger generation is about as meaningful as nail polish color or your shirt color. Also remind her that hair color grows out- it's temporary, unlike a ta too or a piercing. If there is a big family reunion coming up, don't count on getting permission. How you look reflects on your parents.

Also I don't recommend doing this at home. Go to a salon. It will cost around $100 to $200.

What are your reasons for doing this anyway? I had purple hair for about three years and it was alot of fun as long as I was at a concert or a party but trying to do ordinary every stuff like grocery shopping or the laundro mat was annoying. If I had to hear "Oh my God, Harriet! Would you look at that girl's purple hair!" one more time I thought I would pull my hair out at the roots!

I always found it best to just do it and dont ask! Walk in and shock them. They cant say no if you already did it. And will they really make you fix it?

Always in a Salon. Expecially if its drastic. Go to a Salon in the mall. Its quick and easy. I would say it will be about $40 or $50.

I don't advise it...after making such a drastic color change, it takes a lot of money and visits to the salon to make hair turn back to its natural color. If you must do something crazy, please stick to blond...it is at least more natural than purple or blue hair. Your guy friends will probably think it is cool, but a lot of people will look down on you. You should be happy being yourself. If you aren't happy with the way you look, get a membership to a tanning salon and a gym. Check out a master stylist at a really great salon and get auburn highlights put in your gorgeous black hair. You can make subtle changes that make you feel better about yourself. Trust me, nothing hurts self-esteem more than when people run in the opposite direction because you've done something so radical. You can be totally hip without looking like you are going through an identity crisis.

Always try a temporary color before you go all out for a permanent dye job.If your folks raise a ruckus, or if you happen to dislike it,then you can always wash it out. Besides,there's something to be said for variety.If you change your mind a quick shampoo will get the old color out .As for costs, it depends on where you live,the caliber of salon where you are getting the service done and how frequently you need to touch up.

Just go ahead and ask them. Don't worry when they wonder, or ask personal questions about your mental stability. They probably can't afford a psychiatrist anyway. So what if your friends parents think you're weird. I'm sure they won't all stop letting there kids hang out with you. So they don't all let you in the house anymore,....so what! If your teachers see you as a shallow, easily influenced, follower of attention seeking fads.....who cares! So they write you off as a dick-head and "mark" your stuff judgementally....so what....your parents won't care about your marks!
